b743a1368d perf header: Clean up use of perf_env
Always use the perf_env from the feat_fd's perf_header. Cache the
value on entry to a function in `env` and use `env->` consistently in
the code. Ensure the header is initialized for use in
perf_session__do_write_header.

57ddb9cbb5 perf evlist: Change env variable to session
The session holds a perf_env pointer env. In UI code container_of is
used to turn the env to a session, but this assumes the session
header's env is in use. Rather than a dubious container_of, hold the
session in the evlist and derive the env from the session with
evsel__env, perf_session__env, etc.

4d2eefd7fb perf header: Display message if BPF/BTF info is empty
The perf.data file may contain a bpf_prog_info or bpf_btf feature. If
the contents of these are empty then nothing is displayed. Rather than
display nothing and not account for the file space, display an empty
message.

61051f9a84 perf header: In pipe mode dump features without --header/-I
In pipe mode the header features are contained within events. While
other events dump details the header features only dump if --header or
-I are passed, which doesn't make sense as in pipe mode there is no
perf file header. Make the printing of the information conditional on
dump_trace as with other events.

9daa05c84a perf report: Fix a memory leak for perf_env on AMD
The env.pmu_mapping can be leaked when it reads data from a pipe on AMD.
For a pipe data, it reads the header data including pmu_mapping from
PERF_RECORD_HEADER_FEATURE runtime.  But it's already set in:

  perf_session__new()
    __perf_session__new()
      evlist__init_trace_event_sample_raw()
        evlist__has_amd_ibs()
          perf_env__nr_pmu_mappings()

Then it'll overwrite that when it processes the HEADER_FEATURE record.

d6cd7c9f02 perf header: Switch mem topology to io_dir__readdir
Switch memory_node__read and build_mem_topology from opendir/readdir
to io_dir__readdir, with smaller stack allocations. Reduces peak
memory consumption of perf record by 10kb.

a7da6c7030 perf header: Fix one memory leakage in process_bpf_prog_info()
Function __perf_env__insert_bpf_prog_info() will return without inserting
bpf prog info node into perf env again due to a duplicate bpf prog info
node insertion, causing the temporary info_linear and info_node memory to
leak. Modify the return type of this function to bool and add a check to
ensure the memory is freed if the function returns false.

494c403ff1 perf header: Pass a perf_cpu rather than a PMU to get_cpuid_str
On ARM the cpuid is dependent on the core type of the CPU in
question. The PMU was passed for the sake of the CPU map but this
means in places a temporary PMU is created just to pass a CPU
value. Just pass the CPU and fix up the callers.

As there are no longer PMU users in header.h, shuffle forward
declarations earlier to work around build failures.

cec0d6572a perf header: Refactor get_cpuid to take a CPU for ARM
ARM BIG.little has no notion of a constant CPUID for both core
types. To reflect this reality, change the get_cpuid function to also
pass in a possibly unused logical cpu.

If the dummy value (-1) is passed in then ARM can, as currently happens,
select the first logical CPU's "CPUID".

The changes to ARM getcpuid happen in a follow up change.

c6fafe36ba perf header: Move is_cpu_online to numa bench
The helper function is only used in the NUMA benchmark as typically
online CPUs are determined through perf_cpu_map__new_online_cpus().

35de42cdfb perf build: Include libtraceevent headers directly indicated by pkg-config
Currently the libtraceevent's found by pkg-config, which give the
include path as:

  [root@localhost tmp]# pkg-config --cflags libtraceevent
  -I/usr/local/include/traceevent

So we should include the libtraceevent headers directly without
"traceevent/" prefix. Update all the users.

89d64e7273 perf inject: Overhaul handling of pipe files
Previously inject->is_pipe was set if the input or output were a
pipe. Determining the input was a pipe had to be done prior to
starting the session and opening the file. This was done by comparing
the input file name with '-' but it fails if the pipe file is written
to disk.

Opening a pipe file from disk will correctly set perf_data.is_pipe, but
this is too late for 'perf inject' and results in a broken file. A
workaround is 'cat pipe_perf|perf inject -i - ...'.

This change removes inject->is_pipe and changes the dependent
conditions to use the is_pipe flag on the input
(inject->session->data) and output files (inject->output). This
ensures the is_pipe condition reflects things like the header being
read.

The change removes the use of perf file header repiping, that is
writing the file header out while reading it in. The case of input
pipe and output file cannot repipe as the attributes for the file are
unknown. To resolve this, write the file header when writing to disk
and as the attributes may be unknown, write them after the data.

Update sessions repipe variable to be trace_event_repipe as those are
the only events now impacted by it. Update __perf_session__new as the
repipe_fd no longer needs passing. Fully removing repipe from session
header reading will be done in a later change.

e9a7053da3 perf header: Allow attributes to be written after data
With a file, to write data an offset needs to be known. Typically data
follows the event attributes in a file.

However, if processing a pipe the number of event attributes may not be
known.

It is convenient in that case to write the attributes after the data.

Expand perf_session__do_write_header() to allow this when the data
offset and size are known.

This approach may be useful for more than just taking a pipe file to
write into a data file, `perf inject --itrace` will reserve and
additional 8kb for attributes, which would be unnecessary if the
attributes were written after the data.

10df481fda perf header: Fail read if header sections overlap
Buggy perf.data files can have the attributes and data
overlapping.

For example, when processing pipe data the attributes aren't known and
so file offset header calculations can consider them not present.

Later this can cause the attributes to overwrite the data. This can be
seen in:

  $ perf record -o - true > a.data
  [ perf record: Woken up 1 times to write data ]
  [ perf record: Captured and wrote 0.059 MB - ]
  $ perf inject -i a.data -o b.data
  $ perf report --stats -i b.data
  0x68 [0]: failed to process type: 510379 [Invalid argument]

  failed to process sample
  $

This change makes reading the corrupt file fail:

  $ perf report --stats -i b.data
  Perf file header corrupt: Attributes and data overlap
  incompatible file format (rerun with -v to learn more)

Which is more informative.

ee756ef749 perf dso: Add reference count checking and accessor functions
Add reference count checking to struct dso, this can help with
implementing correct reference counting discipline. To avoid
RC_CHK_ACCESS everywhere, add accessor functions for the variables in
struct dso.

The majority of the change is mechanical in nature and not easy to
split up.

Committer testing:

'perf test' up to this patch shows no regressions.

9c51f8788b perf env: Avoid recursively taking env->bpf_progs.lock
Add variants of perf_env__insert_bpf_prog_info(), perf_env__insert_btf()
and perf_env__find_btf prefixed with __ to indicate the
env->bpf_progs.lock is assumed held.

Call these variants when the lock is held to avoid recursively taking it
and potentially having a thread deadlock with itself.

813900d19b perf header: Fix one memory leakage in perf_event__fprintf_event_update()
When dump the raw trace by `perf report -D` ASan reports a memory
leakage in perf_event__fprintf_event_update().

It shows that we allocated a temporary cpumap for dumping the CPUs but
doesn't release it and it's not used elsewhere. Fix this by free the
cpumap after the dumping.

x86 core PMU exposes supported maximum precision level via max_precise
PMU capability. Although, AMD core PMU does not support precise mode,
certain core PMU events with precise_ip > 0 are allowed and forwarded to
IBS OP PMU.

Display a note about this in the 'perf report' header output and
document the details in the perf-list man page.

ac9cd7245f perf header: Support num and width of branch counters
To support the branch counters feature, the information of the maximum
number of supported counters and the width of the counters is exposed in
the sysfs caps folder. The perf tool can use the information to parse
the logged counters in each branch.

Store the information in the perf_env for later usage.

9bf63282ea perf tools: Handle old data in PERF_RECORD_ATTR
The PERF_RECORD_ATTR is used for a pipe mode to describe an event with
attribute and IDs.  The ID table comes after the attr and it calculate
size of the table using the total record size and the attr size.

  n_ids = (total_record_size - end_of_the_attr_field) / sizeof(u64)

This is fine for most use cases, but sometimes it saves the pipe output
in a file and then process it later.  And it becomes a problem if there
is a change in attr size between the record and report.

  $ perf record -o- > perf-pipe.data  # old version
  $ perf report -i- < perf-pipe.data  # new version

For example, if the attr size is 128 and it has 4 IDs, then it would
save them in 168 byte like below:

   8 byte: perf event header { .type = PERF_RECORD_ATTR, .size = 168 },
 128 byte: perf event attr { .size = 128, ... },
  32 byte: event IDs [] = { 1234, 1235, 1236, 1237 },

But when report later, it thinks the attr size is 136 then it only read
the last 3 entries as ID.

   8 byte: perf event header { .type = PERF_RECORD_ATTR, .size = 168 },
 136 byte: perf event attr { .size = 136, ... },
  24 byte: event IDs [] = { 1235, 1236, 1237 },  // 1234 is missing

So it should use the recorded version of the attr.  The attr has the
size field already then it should honor the size when reading data.

c091ee9089 perf pmu: Remove logic for PMU name being NULL
The PMU name could be NULL in the case of the fake_pmu. Initialize the
name for the fake_pmu to "fake" so that all other logic can assume it
is initialized. Add a const to the type of name so that a literal can
be used to avoid additional initialization code. Propagate the cost
through related routines and remove now unnecessary "(char *)"
casts. Doing this located a bug in builtin-list for the pmu_glob that
was missing a strdup.

9897009eec perf header: Fix missing PMU caps
PMU caps are written as HEADER_PMU_CAPS or for the special case of the
PMU "cpu" as HEADER_CPU_PMU_CAPS. As the PMU "cpu" is special, and not
any "core" PMU, the logic had become broken and core PMUs not called
"cpu" were not having their caps written.

This affects ARM and s390 non-hybrid PMUs.

Simplify the PMU caps writing logic to scan one fewer time and to be
more explicit in its behavior.

94f9eb95d9 perf pmus: Remove perf_pmus__has_hybrid
perf_pmus__has_hybrid was used to detect when there was >1 core PMU,
this can be achieved with perf_pmus__num_core_pmus that doesn't depend
upon is_pmu_hybrid and PMU name comparisons. When modifying the
function calls take the opportunity to improve comments,
enable/simplify tests that were previously failing for hybrid but now
pass and to simplify generic code.

9d6a1df9b2 perf pmus: Allow just core PMU scanning
Scanning all PMUs is expensive as all PMUs sysfs entries are loaded,
benchmarking shows more than 4x the cost:

```
$ perf bench internals pmu-scan -i 1000
Computing performance of sysfs PMU event scan for 1000 times
  Average core PMU scanning took: 989.231 usec (+- 1.535 usec)
  Average PMU scanning took: 4309.425 usec (+- 74.322 usec)
```

Add new perf_pmus__scan_core routine that scans just core
PMUs. Replace perf_pmus__scan calls with perf_pmus__scan_core when
non-core PMUs are being ignored.

2b72cec9ee perf: Extract building cache level for a CPU into separate function
build_caches() builds the complete cache topology of the system by
iterating over all CPU, building and comparing cache levels of each CPU,
keeping only the unique ones at the end.

Extract the unit that build the cache levels for a single CPU into a
separate function. Expose this function, and the MAX_CACHE_LVL value to
be used elsewhere in perf too.

9d2dc632e0 perf evlist: Remove nr_groups
Maintaining the number of groups during event parsing is problematic
and since changing to sort/regroup events can only be computed by a
linear pass over the evlist. As the value is generally only used in
tests, rather than hold it in a variable compute it by passing over
the evlist when necessary.

This change highlights that libpfm's counting of groups with a single
entry disagreed with regular event parsing. The libpfm tests are
updated accordingly.

378ef0f5d9 perf build: Use libtraceevent from the system
Remove the LIBTRACEEVENT_DYNAMIC and LIBTRACEFS_DYNAMIC make command
line variables.

If libtraceevent isn't installed or NO_LIBTRACEEVENT=1 is passed to the
build, don't compile in libtraceevent and libtracefs support.

This also disables CONFIG_TRACE that controls "perf trace".

CONFIG_LIBTRACEEVENT is used to control enablement in Build/Makefiles,
HAVE_LIBTRACEEVENT is used in C code.

Without HAVE_LIBTRACEEVENT tracepoints are disabled and as such the
commands kmem, kwork, lock, sched and timechart are removed.  The
majority of commands continue to work including "perf test".

Had to tweak tools/perf/util/setup.py to make sure the python binding
shared object links with libtraceevent if -DHAVE_LIBTRACEEVENT is
present in CFLAGS.

Building with NO_LIBTRACEEVENT=1 uncovered some more build failures:

- Make building of data-convert-bt.c to CONFIG_LIBTRACEEVENT=y

- perf-$(CONFIG_LIBTRACEEVENT) += scripts/

- bpf_kwork.o needs also to be dependent on CONFIG_LIBTRACEEVENT=y

- The python binding needed some fixups and util/trace-event.c can't be
  built and linked with the python binding shared object, so remove it
  in tools/perf/util/setup.py and exclude it from the list of
  dependencies in the python/perf.so Makefile.perf target.

Building without libtraceevent-devel installed uncovered more build
failures:

- The python binding tools/perf/util/python.c was assuming that
  traceevent/parse-events.h was always available, which was the case
  when we defaulted to using the in-kernel tools/lib/traceevent/ files,
  now we need to enclose it under ifdef HAVE_LIBTRACEEVENT, just like
  the other parts of it that deal with tracepoints.

- We have to ifdef the rules in the Build files with
  CONFIG_LIBTRACEEVENT=y to build builtin-trace.c and
  tools/perf/trace/beauty/ as we only ifdef setting CONFIG_TRACE=y when
  setting NO_LIBTRACEEVENT=1 in the make command line, not when we don't
  detect libtraceevent-devel installed in the system. Simplification here
  to avoid these two ways of disabling builtin-trace.c and not having
  CONFIG_TRACE=y when libtraceevent-devel isn't installed is the clean
  way.

49bd97c28b perf tools: Use dedicated non-atomic clear/set bit helpers
Use the dedicated non-atomic helpers for {clear,set}_bit() and their
test variants, i.e. the double-underscore versions.  Depsite being
defined in atomic.h, and despite the kernel versions being atomic in the
kernel, tools' {clear,set}_bit() helpers aren't actually atomic.  Move
to the double-underscore versions so that the versions that are expected
to be atomic (for kernel developers) can be made atomic without
affecting users that don't want atomic operations.

No functional change intended.

37ed2cddcb perf inject: Adjust output data offset for backward compatibility
When 'perf inject' creates a new file, it reuses the data offset from
the input file. If there has been a change on the size of the header, as
happened in v5.12 -> v5.13, the new offsets will be wrong, resulting in
a corrupted output file.

This change adds the function perf_session__data_offset to compute the
data offset based on the current header size, and uses that instead of
the offset from the original input file.
