There's a new premium tier and it's called the NewsBlur Premium Archive subscription. For $99/year, every story from every site you subscribe to will stay in NewsBlur's archive. This premium tier also allows you to mark any story as unread as well as choose when stories are automatically marked as read. You can now have full control of your story archive, letting you search, share, and read stories forever without having to worry about them being deleted.
The Premium Archive subscription offers you the following:
* Everything in the premium subscription, of course
* Choose when stories are automatically marked as read
* Every story from every site is archived and searchable forever
* Feeds that support paging are back-filled in for a complete archive
* Export trained stories from folders as RSS feeds
* Stories can stay unread forever
The launch of this new subscription tier also includes the 2022 redesign, which includes a new dashboard and a whole lot of new icons.

The latest redesign style has more accomodations for spacing and padding around each story title element. The result is a cleaner story title with easier to read headlines. The author has been moved and restyled to be next to the story date. Favicons and unread status indicators have been swapped, and font sizes, colors, and weights have been adjusted.

For $99/year, every story from every site you subscribe to will stay in NewsBlur’s archive. This premium tier also allows you to mark any story as unread as well as choose when stories are automatically marked as read. You can now have full control of your story archive, letting you search, share, and read stories forever without having to worry about them being deleted.

The Premium Archive subscription offers you the following:

Everything in the premium subscription, of course

Stories can stay unread forever

The launch of this new subscription tier also includes the 2022 redesign, which includes a new dashboard and a whole lot of new icons.

The latest redesign style has more accomodations for spacing and padding around each story title element. The result is a cleaner story title with easier to read headlines. The author has been moved and restyled to be next to the story date. Favicons and unread status indicators have been swapped, and font sizes, colors, and weights have been adjusted.

The compact interface is denser than before, giving power users a highly detailed view. Transitions have also been added to help you feel the difference.

If you find the interface to be too airy, there is a setting in the main Manage menu allowing you to switch between Comfortable and Compact. Notice all of those new icons.

It’s so incredibly useful to have NewsBlur come to me. I hope you feel the same about this Android widget.

But every so often a new feature comes along that changes how NewsBlur gets used. I consider offline stories part of this exclusive club. Same with the Text view, which shows you the full text of a story. And push notifications are right up there.

Today, I’m pleased to announce the launch of our new Today View widget on iOS.

Instead of having to open up the app to see what’s new, the stories come to you in the Today View, adjacent to the notification center. Personally I find myself checking this Today View widget a dozen times more than I open the NewsBlur app. It’s so incredibly useful to have NewsBlur come to me.

Additionally, in version 10.0 of the iOS app, we have a bunch of new features:

A new iOS widget shows the latest stories in your Notification Center and on your iPad dashboard

Statistics visualization for every site

Automatic downloading of the original story full text for offline reading

Unsubscribe from a feed directly from a story

Preferences import & export

And tons of bugs were fixed along with other small improvements:

Fixed crash on start for a few users

Fixed highlighting issue

Fixed settings with stories on bottom

Tweaked dark theme colors to be darker

Fixed wonky behavior on iPad

Clearing offline now clears the cached stories, text, and images from the database

Manually changing the theme now turns off the preference to follow the system appearance

Turning on following the system appearance immediately updates the theme appropriately

Fixed crash on feed load list

Fixed crash on start

And if you’re an Android user, I just want you to know that we intended to ship this feature first on Android (and in fact, it is 90% built) but then our Android developer bailed. I’ll be hiring for another Android devleoper soon, but if that interests you, please reach out!

Most of the time when we release a new feature, it finds immediate use.
There’s a new premium tier and it’s called the NewsBlur Premium Archive subscription.

I consider offline stories part of this exclusive club. Same with the Text view, which shows you the full text of a story. And push notifications are right up there.

This brand new iPad app is not just an accessory to the web. It’s a full blown reading experience. Here are some of the many features now available in the palm of your hands:

All your sites, folders, and friend’s blurblogs

Super-fast everything, from near-instant downloading of stories to the mouthfeel of the app itself

Commenting on stories and sharing them on your blurblog

New users can easily get started by importing directly from Google Reader, so you can tell friends about the app without having them to go the website first

The biggest new feature is all about sharing stories with people. Blurblogs, those shared story feeds, are now part of your feed list. And you can expand your network by following more people directly from the app. Following more people means being exposed to stories from sites you may not have even heard of. And because the NewsBlur iPad app is so fast, you can traverse between stories quickly, settling on the ones that look interesting. And better yet, see contribute to a discussion between friends, all on the app.

But wait, there’s more! In fact, there’s a whole lot more, because this is a universal iOS app, which means there’s an iPhone app to boot. Everything you can do on the iPad app is available on the iPhone app.

The iPad app and latest version of the iPhone app were built by my good friend Roy. Now that the Y Combinator summer has ended, we wish him well as he’s moving on to pursue his non-news dreams.
The Text view is one of the most popular NewsBlur features. It’s available on all three platforms and gives you the full text of the original story, even in truncated RSS feeds. Up until today, NewsBlur’s implementation of the Text view used Readability’s open source text extractor.

Starting today, all stories will be run through Postlight Labs’ Mercury Parser. That means that not only will the full text be more likely to correctly pull the entire article, but it will also do a much better job with extracting full size images in stories.

Take a look:

A welcome improvement. This new text extractor and parser also does a better job of handling Unicode and Chinese characters. And when it doesn’t extract text as well as the old text extractor, NewsBlur will automatically fallback on the old method.

Faster parallel network requests for version 3.5 of the NewsBlur Android app

The single biggest criticism I’ve heard of the Android app is that it can be slow when loading feeds and then loading stories. That changes today with the release of version 3.5 of the NewsBlur Android app.

Here’s what’s new:

Completely rewritten parallel network stack

All network requests are now much, much faster

Bugs fixed when marking as read and saved

And remember that only a month and a half ago, version 3.0 hit the Play Store and the Kindle Store with these great features:

New story traversal buttons make it easy to flip between stories.

New text view fetches and parses the story from the original site.

New logo.

Public comments are now be hidden in preferences.

Ability to unsave stories.

There’s more coming to the NewsBlur Android app, now that it’s reached speed parity with the iOS app. Look forward to lots of updates, improvements, and new features.

There’s no wrong way to hold an iPad loaded with the brand new NewsBlur iPad app, provided it’s facing you and turned on.

So long buddy, and thanks for all the hard work this summer. Roy wrote about his impression of Y Combinator and the past summer.

Go download the NewsBlur iOS app and forget about sitting at your desk.
